Cllr David O'Connor stepping down after nearly 20 years on Fingal County Council

One door opens as another closes

I spoke with Cllr David O'Connor today following hearing the news that he has taken on a new role and would be retiring from Fingal County Council. Cllr O'Connor said that in April he was honored to have been nominated President Elect of Cricket Ireland to serve 2019/2020.

Cllr O'Connor said it has been a privilege to work for the people of Balbriggan and Fingal and throughout the island of Ireland for the past 19 years.

David has made a big impact on Fingal and has been an integral part of local politics for a very long time. One of his greatest honors was being elected first non party Mayor of Fingal in 2015 and this role seen him play an active role at the county 1916 commemorations including the one at Balrothery.

I had the honour to meet with David on many occasions working on many projects around Balrothery Village and elsewhere. I found him to be a very honest hard working representative always keen to see good work being done and people getting involved in their community. A very inspirational and community spirited man.

Cllr O'Connor has told that he has asked his good friend, neighbour and former councillor Cathal Boland to be his replacement for the remainder of the County Council term. He will take up the position on July 9th next.

His details are as follows: Address: Stone Cottage, Drishogue, Oldtown, Co Dublin. Email: Mobile phone no: 086 2577 672 Finally Cllr O'Connor daid "I would like to sincerely thank all at Fingal County Council who have worked and are constantly working to make Fingal such a special place."

I would also wish David well and look forward to meeting him again in his new role.
