Balbriggan & District Historical Society present: Collier the Robber by Brendan Matthews Wednesday, 28th September at 8 p.m. Town Hall, Balbriggan.

A Presentation Talk on Michael Collier, alias Collier the Robber, by Community Historian Brendan Matthews.

Michael Collier, alias Collier the Robber, was the last of the great `Stand and Deliver` Highwaymen in Ireland. Born near Bellewstown Co Meath in the 1780`s, he terrorised the stage coaches and gentry-folk of Meath Louth and Fingal for many years, sometimes acting alone, while at other times he was accompanied by a loyal band of highway robbers, many of whom ended their days on the end of the hangman`s rope, while Collier himself lived on until old-age. Community Historian & Archivist at the Drogheda Museum at Millmount, Brendan Matthews, will tell the tale of this extraordinary Highwayman, his life and adventures, who was hated by the authorities and loved by the working classes and the poor.
