Council welcomes selection of areas for fast-track delivery of homes.

Fingal County Council has welcomed the announcement by the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government of four areas within the county for the fast-track delivery of homes.
Minister Simon Coveney, TD, announced on Thursday (November 10) that Hansfield/Barnhill, Oldtown/Mooretown, Donabate and North City Fringe, which includes Portmarnock, Baldoyle and Balgriffin, had been identified as major urban housing delivery sites with the potential to deliver 9,400 homes in the long term and 4,800 in the short-term.
In addition, Fingal County Council has applied for €38million in funding under the €200m Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund, which is Pillar Three of the Government’s Rebuilding Ireland Action Plan for Housing and Homelessness, in relation to these four strategic sites.
The plans for the four sites include the provision of roads, parks, recreation areas, drainage and access to public transport.

The Director of Strategic Planning and Infrastructure, AnnMarie Farrelly, said the Council are at an advanced stage in their plans
“The infrastructure proposals for these areas will be ready to proceed without delay once funding comes on stream,” said Ms Farrelly.
“Homes are already under construction on a number of these sites while the distributor road in Donabate, which is a key piece of infrastructure for that area, is due to commence in the second quarter of 2017.
“While these four areas have been identified by the Government for fast-tracking as part of the Rebuilding Ireland programme, there are other prime sites across the county such as Balbriggan, Skerries, Rush and Dublin 15, where the Council is also well placed to have any necessary infrastructure delivered,” added Ms Farrelly.
There is currently planning permission in place for 10,000 homes in Fingal and the Council continues to ensure there is adequate zoned land in the right locations to facilitate housing as well as economic and social development.
Material alterations to the Council’s Draft Development Plan 2017-2023 have just been published and are available for public consultation at www.fingal.ie
