Darragh OBrien TD launch of Balbriggan round table meeting on alcohol related harm in the community.

In 2016 the North Dublin Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force, based in Swords, was approved as an implementation area for the National Community Action on Alcohol Programme and we have been working on this project for over a year now. The task is to formulate an action plan on alcohol for the North Fingal area, which has input from all parties interested in reducing the public harm caused by alcohol in our area. We have identified the towns of Balbriggan, Skerries, and Swords, as the towns in which to begin our consultations with the community. It is our intention to hold a round table of community based people, clubs, and organisations in each of the three areas.

We would like to stress this is not an anti-drinks campaign, rather it’s the beginning of a process to engage the local community of Balbriggan in a discussion about alcohol-related harm in their area, and to begin to develop an action plan to reduce this harm.

The Drinks Meter app provides you with instant, anonymous, & confidential feedback on your alcohol use. It compares your drinking against other people’s info in the Drinks Meter community to give unbiased & anonymous feedback. It is designed for over 18s.

"Great meeting this evening in Balbriggan. It was a pleasure to launch Balbriggan round table meeting on alcohol related harm in the community. Excellent turnout from the community of Balbriggan. This is the start of a great community initiative in Balbriggan. As Chairperson of the Regional Drugs and Alcohol task force, I am delighted to support this initiative. This follows on from the establishment of the Skerries group two weeks ago. Next stop Swords. Well done to Brid Walsh, Louise, Karen, Anita and all the team in the task force for arranging tonight." O'Brien
