Exciting programme of events from Balbriggan & District Historical Society

Balbriggan & District Historical Society quiz upstairs in The Milestone Inn on Thursday 23rd of March at 8pm

Welcome to another year in the life of Balbriggan & District Historical Society and we begin the new year with a new Chairperson Anne Collins and a new member of the Committee Brian Kavanagh. Congratulations and welcome both of them to their new roles. Don't worry Jim Walsh isn't leaving the Committee and all of the other Committee Members remain the same.

Our first event of 2017 is a quiz upstairs in The Milestone Inn on Thursday 23rd of March at 8pm. Come along and test your wits against your neighbours and friends - and have a good night out. Who knows - it could end in Historic Victory (if only in the raffle!!) Teams of 4, €40 per team. Prizes kindly sponsored by Supervalu. See you there at 8pm. Spread the word.

We have confirmed the speakers for our first 3 talks also, and these will be held as usual the last Wednesday of the month in the Town Hall (Beside the Library) at 8pm:

Wednesday March 29 Jim Walsh - " Balbriggan Carnegie Free Library: It's design construction and development since 1905"

Wednesday April 26 Brian Arnold "Thomas Ashe The Revolutionary Teacher"

Wednesday May 31 Padraig Yeates will speak on The Russian Revolution, Easter 1916 and Irish Labour History -(exact title to be confirmed).

On Wednesday March 29 Fingal County Council will be hosting a showcase of Historical Societies in County Hall Swords. The Society will have a stand there featuring some of our archive photographs there. A photographic exhibition will be launched on the night and will run until April 7, so there will be plenty of time to call in and view it after the opening.

We are busy putting together a full programme of events for you for 2017, but this is to let you know about the first important dates for your diary. Hope to see as many of you as possible at the quiz and I will be in touch further in the next few weeks.
