Fingal County Council Storm Emma – Situation Update (12:00)

All roads in Fingal which are designated as either Priority 1 or 2 Routes are currently open. Traffic is light but conditions are poor and drivers are advised to exercise caution and reduce speed. At this stage, drivers should not travel unless absolutely necessary. The Priority 1 and Priority 2 Routes were salted at 4am and 8am this morning and the Council remains focused on keeping these roads open. Between 4pm today and 12noon tomorrow there will be continuous monitoring of the situation. Regular assessments will be made as to the requirement for salting and ploughing during this period, but the safety of our crews will be a priority in the decision-making process. In addition, there are also plans in place to provide the necessary assistance should any emergency situation require it during this period. Arrangements have also been made to mobilise crews once the danger has passed and to commence the clean-up. The Council’s Crisis Management Team had a Conference Call at 10.30am this morning and there will be another conference call at 8pm this evening. Updates were given in relation to situations at local, regional and national level. The National Emergency Coordination Group has advised that people should not venture out of doors while the Red Warning in in place, especially between 4pm today and 12 noon tomorrow.

The Council’s public offices are closed today and tomorrow as are our libraries. All public parks and recycling centres are closed until further notice and all graveyards are closed on Friday and Saturday. Any changes to these arrangements will be posted on our social media accounts and our media bulletins. The Council continues to provide essential services primarily through staff in our Operations, Water Services, Housing and Corporate Affairs Departments. Members of the public can submit reports of issues caused by snowfall and low temperatures to www.fixyourstreet.ie.  Issues can also be phoned to 01 873141. These reports will be logged and assessed. Reports of people sleeping rough should now be phoned to 999 or 112. Information is being continually posted on the Fingal Alerts app as well as our Twitter and Facebook accounts.
