Fingal County Council are providing free pay and display parking at selected train stations to encourage commuters to use public transport as part of European Mobility Week.

On September 22, World Car Free Day, commuters can park for free beside train stations in Hansfield Road in Clonsilla, Quay Street Car Park in Balbriggan and Bridgefield Car Park in Malahide.

This is part of an effort to improve road safety and minimise damage to the environment by decreasing the numbers of cars on the road.

Drivers should note that free parking is available within these selected car parks only and that areas surrounding the three car parks are not included.

Fingal County Council is also taking permanent measures to make alternative modes of transport more accessible. These include improvements to bicycle lanes as well as bicycle parking facilities and more zebra crossings to allow people to travel on foot.

“Clean, Shared and Intelligent Mobility focuses around a concept we learn as toddlers - sharing. By using shared forms of transport, for example - car sharing or commuting on trains or buses, we can reduce our expenses and lower our carbon footprint,” said Niamh Russell, Fingal County Council’s Road Safety Promotion Officer.

In an effort to make school runs safer for drivers and children, speed reduction programmes will be actioned in areas close to primary schools.

There will also be a colouring competition open to all primary schools across Fingal during European Mobility Week with the theme being ‘Clean, Shared and Intelligent Mobility’.
