Fingal Mayor's Awards 2018 Nominee - Con Lawler

Clonard Court resident Con Lawlor was nominated by his colleagues in the Balbriggan Men's Shed for the Fingal Mayor's Community Volunteer Awards. Con's been with the local Men's Shed since it's inception in Spring 2015. The Shed's been active working on behalf of many local clients including Friends of Autism/ADHD, Little Gumboots Pre-School, Balbriggan Tidy Towns and the Progressive Credit Union among others and is located in the former Coach house behind St. Peter and Paul's Church. Formally from an administration background, Con had few manual skills, but the theory behind the Men's Shed movement is shared learning and developing new skills while promoting the benefits of positive mental well being.

"The guys in the shed were only too happy to pass on their vast experience and this renewed my confidence working on a variety of mainly wooden based projects such as buddy benches for many schools around the area, planter boxes, bird feeders and the new Grotto beside the church and the town parks. It's lovely to see new members arrive, some with little confidence just like myself and see the satisfaction when they've finished a project. It also gives an opening for somewhere you can go and get involved while enjoying a bit of banter over a cuppa. I'm delighted to be nominated by my friends in the Shed." Con is the administrator of the Balbriggan Men's Shed.
