Fingal Old IRA in conjunction with Fingal County Council to Remember Richard Coleman

On Sunday the 2nd December, Swords patriot Richard Coleman will be remembered when Fingal Old IRA in conjunction with Fingal County Council will host a Commemoration.

Richard was Captain of the Swords Company of the Fingal Volunteers In Easter Week 1916. Richard led a party of men from Fingal to relieve the Dublin Garrison.


Richard was imprisoned in Mountjoy in 1917 with Tom Ashe where Ashe died on hunger strike. On release Richard was instrumental in establishing new Ireland Assurance Society. Coleman was arrested in the spring of 1918 as part of the “German Plot”. He died in Usk Prison, Monmouthshire Wales on December the 9th 1918.

The Parade will commence at Swords Castle and march to Café Tara on the Main Street where a wreath will be laid at the location of Richard’s former home.


The Parade will then proceed to the County Hall for an informal reception and talk on the life and times of Richard Coleman.
