Fingal to receive over €1 million for the refurbishment of vacant homes – Minister Darragh O’Brien

Local Fianna Fáil Minister Darragh O’Brien has welcomed the allocation of over €1 million in funding for Fingal County Council for the refurbishment of vacant social homes.

As part of the July Stimulus Minister Darragh O’Brien secured an extra €40 million in funding for the refurbishment of social housing stock. The clear objective of this funding is to ensure that approximately 2,500 vacant local authority homes can be refurbished and tenanted this year.

Minister O’Brien said, “I am asking Fingal County Council, and indeed all Local Authorities across the country to take immediate steps to ensure work on remediating vacant homes within their stock begins straight away.

“I want vacant social housing units in North County Dublin to be targeted for refurbishment this year so that they can be re-let to individuals and families struggling with homelessness or on the social housing list.

“Not only will the additional funding make extra social housing stock available quickly, it will also have a knock-on economic benefit by generating further employment to local builders, carpenters, painters, plumbers and electricians,” concluded Minister O’Brien.
