Mayor of Fingal Cllr Mary McCamley welcomes Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau


Mayor of Fingal Cllr Mary McCamley welcomed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Ireland at Dublin Airport on Monday evening 3rd July. Mr Trudeau was accompanied by his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau and their young son Hadrien on what was his first State visit to Ireland and the beginning of his six day visit to Europe which will include attending the G20 summit in Germany. Also at the airport to greet the Prime Minister were Minister Ciaran Cannon and Canadian Ambassador to Ireland Kevin Vickers.

The Canadian Prime Minister’s visit to Ireland also included a meeting with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar at Farmleigh and a visit with President Michael D Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin.


In a statement before his visit to Ireland, Prime Minister Trudeau said “Ireland and Canada share a strong and vibrant relationship, based on shared cultural heritage and strong family ties.”

Speaking about the meeting Ms. McCamley said “It was a great honour, just a few weeks into my role as Mayor of Fingal, to welcome the Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, with his wife Sophie and young son Hadrian to Fingal and Ireland. “

As Dublin Airport is in located in Fingal protocol dictates that if the President isn’t available then the Mayor of Fingal is next in line to welcome dignitaries here. Among the dignitaries welcomed by previous Mayors of Fingal was US Vice President Joe Biden in 2016.
