buymie launches in six new Irish locations

The big basket same-day grocery delivery platform will create 60 new personal shopper roles to service 45k additional households in the Leinster region

buymie, the big-basket same-day grocery delivery platform today announces the expansion of its service to six new Irish locations across the Leinster region including Balbriggan. The personal grocery shopping service is now available to over 750,000 households across the country.

About buymie

By using local personal shoppers picking from local stores, the buymie grocery delivery service has been delighting time-poor customers in Ireland since launching in 2016.

Buymie users have no limitation on basket size and have access to whatever products are in a customer's local store - approximately 20,000 - 35,000 SKUs. A personal shopper is then appointed, allowing for seamless communication during the shopping process, and ensuring the best substitutions and highest quality fresh produce are selected.

Launching on various dates throughout August, the new locations are:

  • Newbridge

  • Sallins & Naas

  • Kilcock

  • Kilkenny

  • Drogheda

  • Balbriggan

The 7 new stores will join the 44 Dunnes Stores across Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway that allow Dunnes Stores customers to avail of a personal shopper to carefully pick groceries and book a same-day delivery slot. Slots are available for the same day, and often in as little as 1-hour. Customers can also choose their preferred delivery slot for up to 7 days in advance.

Over 60 new personal shopper roles will be created to service over 45,000 households in the catchment areas.

Speaking about the expansion, Devan Hughes, CEO & Co-Founder of buymie said:

“As an increasing number of people return to the office for more days each week, the value of time-saving services becomes paramount. Buymie saves customers on average 1 hour every time they order and we are thrilled to expand the buymie grocery service in partnership with Dunnes Stores, bringing convenience to even more time-poor consumers across Ireland.

“As always, we continue to explore new categories and products that would suit same day delivery such as Home, DIY, Beauty and Electronics, that could join the buymie marketplace and leverage the innovative routing and same-day delivery capabilities of buymie, as well as its dedicated network of independent personal shoppers.”

By using local personal shoppers picking from local stores, the buymie grocery delivery service has been delighting time-poor customers in Ireland since 2016. Customers can note specific preferences on their orders and can opt-in for a call from their shopper in-store if items are out of stock. Unlike traditional eCommerce solutions, buymie can deliver on the same day and can fulfil orders in as little as 1-hour.

The buymie service will be available to selected Eircodes surrounding the 7 new Dunnes Stores and is likely to be rolled out further.

There is no limit on the number of items that can be ordered with delivery fees ranging from €5.99 to €6.99. A small basket fee of €3 applies to orders under €30. A small picking and packing fee applies.

Buymie shoppers can call the customer from the store and let them know if items are out of stock, and offer alternatives. If a customer can not find something they are looking for on the app, they can add a special request at checkout for their shopper, who will look for and add the items where possible.

Founded in 2016, buymie is a leading player in the rapidly evolving grocery delivery market. The business has expanded to a team of 70+ with a network of personal shoppers to meet the increasing demand for grocery home delivery, a trend which has accelerated dramatically during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Buymie’s big-basket, same-day grocery delivery service is available to over 750,000 households across Dublin, Leinster commuter towns, Limerick, Cork and Galway. The service has been used by one in eight households across Dublin.

Buymie works closely with official retail partner Dunnes Stores and in 2022, buymie announced a trial partnership with Woodies to launch the service outside the traditional grocery market, validating buymie’s enterprise technology offering and leveraging the innovative routing and delivery capabilities of buymie, as well as its dedicated network of independent personal shoppers.

Consumers who are interested in getting their groceries delivered through buymie can download the buymie app for either iOS or Android devices.
