Ryan calls on government to support Dublin Fire Brigade

Brendan Ryan TD has called on the government to offer increased support to Dublin Fire Brigade, following the recommendations made by the pre hospital Emergency Care Services report. The report, made a number of recommendations including implementing an integrated system for both the National Ambulance Service and Dublin Fire Brigade. It also highlighted the need for a new funding structure and more collaboration between the two providers, in the area of Call Taking and Dispatch. Ryan urged the government to implement them “without delay”.

In response to the recent Fianna Fáil motion on Dublin Fire Brigade, Labour TD Brendan Ryan has called on the government to offer increased support for this service and urged Minister Eoghan Murphy to implement a new funding structure, as recommended by the report. Following an amendment to the motion put forward by the Labour Party, Ryan criticized the government’s lack of action and highlighted the unacceptable situation, describing the fire personnel as being left in “limbo.”

Dublin Fire Brigade has long served the people of Fingal and their dedication has been greatly appreciated, particularly during times of economic unrest and in an increasingly difficult working environment. Ryan paid tribute to this saying-“It is a testament to the commitment Dublin Fire Brigade has to the citizens of Dublin that their industrial unrest has not manifested into large scale industrial action.” Ryan then took the opportunity to mention his own pride at the full time fire service in operation in Swords, alongside the retained services which currently operate in both Skerries and Balbriggan, making particular reference to their efforts during the heavy snow in March of this year.

Owing to the recommendations in the report, Ryan urged the government to “provide certainty” to Dublin Fire Brigade and to ensure that the people of both Dublin City and County remain proud of this service and that trust and respect is maintained.
