Strange Change - Balbriggan Man makes Money with Money.

At the launch of the YouthBank Kebam in Balrothery we met an old friend Dave McKeown a native Balbrigganer who has started a fascinating crafting business called Strange Change. He told me that all he has become very interested in old coins and the history attached to them.

So he set about collecting old coins from friends and family and started to make jewellery out of them. He told us he gets great pleasure telling the community all about the history attached and how our country went through so many currency changes.

Dave showed me a spoon he was working on where he had come across the spoon which originated from Balbriggan Lighthouse from a time when the Commissioners of Irish Lights provided lighthouse staff with silver cutlery. Dave has taken the spoon and incorporated an old Irish coins harp symbol onto the spoon. Just one example of the amazing and intricate things Dave does with old coins.

You can see Daves work and many more Balbriggan Crafters including Bernie Davis at the upcoming Christmas Market on December 12th on the Church Grounds of SS Peter & Pauls at 18.30
