On the 1st of August 2017 Niamh McMahon and her family's world turned upside down when her beloved Mum passed away in St Francis Hospice, Raheny. While they were completely devastated, they were so grateful that her Mum was under the amazing care of the hospice. Niamh said "When Mam started to unexpectedly deteriorate, they took charge and organised a palative nurse, night nurse and admittance to the hospice. It gave Mum great comfort to know she was going there. During her final few days, the staff couldn’t do enough for her, my Dad and us."

Since then Niamh wanted to do a fundraiser in her Mum’s name but didn’t know what. She recently started swimming again and that’s when inspiration struck. Her Mam loved swimming & aqua aerobics so it seemed appropriate to do a swimming challenge. She told her friends about the idea & in a moment of kindness/madness Sandra Ward decided to do it too. So they swam a marathon in March for her Mum in GymPlus Swords.
Any support is greatly appreciated. We can’t thank the hospice enough for taking such good care of our Mum.
42k, 2110 lengths, 21 hours swimming completed.
On Mothers Day Niamh posted online:
The biggest thanks to my swimming buddy & fantastic friend Sandra Ward who will never have drinks with me again in January & get roped into mad challenges 😂. Thank you to the staff in Gymplus Swords for all their help & encouragement. Thank you so much to everyone who donated & supported us especially our families who came out to cheer us on today. Will post the final total in a few days.
And to my beloved Mam, the inspiration for this challenge, you gave me a strength i didn't know i had to do this. Happy Mother's Day Mam. Love you & miss you every day 💕.
